Technology and Digitisation Should Be Leveraged to Make Services More Accessible to Ex-Servicemen: Governor

Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) held a courtesy meeting with the newly appointed Director, Sainik Welfare, Brigadier B.S. Basera (Retd.), on Tuesday. Brigadier Digvijay Singh Basera (Retd.) belongs to the third generation of his family to serve in the armed forces. A native of Bhandari village in Devalthal, Pithoragarh district, Brigadier Basera completed a distinguished 34-year military career and has also served as Secretary of the Kendriya Sainik Board.

During the meeting, the Governor emphasised that the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families should remain a top priority in Uttarakhand. He stressed that the benefits of various schemes and facilities provided by the Central and State Governments should reach them in a timely and hassle-free manner. He called for greater use of technology and digitisation in this regard to reduce unnecessary paperwork and ensure swift resolution of their grievances.

The Governor also emphasised the need to make medical facilities, including those available through ECHS, as well as CSD services, more accessible to ex-servicemen and their families. He particularly suggested exploring the possibility of providing CSD facilities at the doorstep of elderly and senior ex-servicemen, thereby saving them the inconvenience of travelling long distances to canteens and waiting in crowded premises.

The Governor also sought an update on the ongoing construction of Sainik Dham and said that it holds immense significance as a centre of faith and pride for soldiers and their families. He emphasised the need to work towards strengthening its operations and implementation to ensure that its purpose is effectively fulfilled. The Governor and the Director also discussed several other matters related to the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.
