22-05-2026:Key Points for Hon’ble Governor’s Interaction with Media on the Inauguration of the 21st Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament
Jai Hind!
Respected members of the media, first of all, I warmly welcome all of you on the occasion of the commencement of the 21st Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament.
As you are all aware, former Chief Minister Late Major General Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri (Retd.) passed away on May 19. His demise is an irreparable loss for the state. Along with being a distinguished military officer, he was also a widely respected and people’s leader. This year’s golf tournament has been dedicated as a tribute to his memory.
Today, the 21st Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament has commenced at the Lok Bhavan Golf Course and will continue until May 24.
This tournament is not merely a sporting event, but also an effective platform to showcase Uttarakhand’s vibrant cultural heritage, tourism potential, and sporting capabilities.
Golf is a remarkable sport that goes beyond physical skill. It embodies a profound philosophy of life. The game teaches us patience, precise focus, and the ability to maintain mental balance even in challenging situations.
Today’s world is filled with speed, stress, and constant pressure. At a time when people are deeply entangled in technology, sports like golf provide fresh energy, positivity, and rejuvenation amidst lush green valleys and the serenity of nature. It teaches us that by connecting with peace and natural beauty, we can discover our inner strength.
In this context, our esteemed Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has launched visionary movements such as the “Fit India Movement” and “Khelo India.” His inspiring vision is reflected in the slogans: “Jo Khelega, Wahi Khilega” (“Those who play, flourish”) and “Fitness ka Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz” (“A dose of fitness, half an hour daily”).
The objective of the Governor’s Cup Tournament is not only to provide a platform for sporting talent but also to establish Nainital and Uttarakhand on the global tourism map. Our effort is to take the state’s natural beauty, peace, and dignity to the world, so that both tourism and sports can flourish together.
Uttarakhand, known as Devbhoomi (Land of the Gods), is now steadily progressing towards becoming a “Khelbhoomi” (Land of Sports) as well. The state government has undertaken several important initiatives for the development of sports infrastructure, scholarships for players, training facilities, and opportunities for competitions.
The increasing participation of youth and girls in this golf tournament is proof that, if given the right platform, the young people of Uttarakhand have the full potential to make the nation proud.
The Lok Bhavan Golf Course is not just a sports venue; it is a symbol of natural beauty and heritage. Its grandeur, tranquility, and historical significance make it an attraction not only for golfers but also for tourists from across the country. We are continuously working to connect this place with the wider public so that it becomes a source of inspiration for every young person and citizen, not just a privileged few.
I express my heartfelt gratitude to all members of the media. As the fourth pillar of democracy, your role is extremely important. You do not merely deliver news, but also shape the thinking and direction of society.
I expect all of you to give wide coverage and publicity to this event. With the support of the media, the natural beauty, art, and culture of this region can gain greater recognition at national and international levels.
In conclusion, I sincerely thank all media personnel and officials present here for being part of this event.
