22-03-2026:Address by Hon’ble Governor on the Occasion of International Yoga Festival–2026
Jai Hind!
Respected saints and spiritual leaders, distinguished yoga masters from across the world, esteemed delegates representing various nations—my greetings to all of you.
Standing here today on the sacred land of Rishikesh, amidst the serene lap of the Himalayas and the flowing grace of Mother Ganga, I feel a deep sense of peace, pride, and spiritual fulfillment.
This is Devbhoomi Uttarakhand—where every breath carries the resonance of ancient mantras, where yoga is not merely practiced, but lived. I extend a warm welcome to all of you to this divine land of sages and seekers.
Rishikesh is not just a geographical destination—it is a global centre of consciousness. It is a place where human awareness has been refined for thousands of years. It is not merely a city; it is the spiritual capital of the world.
According to our sacred traditions, Lord Shri Ram himself performed penance and meditation in this very region. Since then, this land has continuously nurtured the traditions of self-realization, discipline, and spiritual awakening.
As I see participants from over 30 countries gathered here, it reinforces my belief that Rishikesh continues to stand tall on the global stage as a permanent abode for yoga seekers.
Organized under the joint aegis of Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam and the Tourism Department, this International Yoga Festival has, for over 35 years, served as a bridge carrying the light of yoga to the world. This year, with over 2,500 participants and more than 150 yoga experts, the festival reflects the growing global thirst for holistic well-being.
We are blessed by the presence of revered spiritual masters such as Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Aryika Purnamati Mata Ji, and Yogi Jeevanand Ji. Their teachings remind us that yoga is not merely about physical postures.
Yoga is the journey of the self towards the self. It is the light that removes inner darkness and connects us with deeper awareness and unwavering faith.
Over the past week, through pranayama, Ayurveda, naturopathy, and spiritual discourses, a river of knowledge has flowed here—offering the world the essential mantra of holistic health. This festival is not just a series of practices—it is a celebration of life. From the sacred havan at Brahma Muhurta, to the divine Ganga Aarti, to the enchanting musical evenings—Rishikesh has transformed into a spiritual haven.
Renowned artists like Anup Jalota, Lakhwinder Wadali, and ISKCON ensembles have infused devotion through music, while today, Uttarakhand’s legendary voice Narendra Singh Negi will bring this festival to a soulful culmination. This beautifully reflects that music and culture are integral to yoga.
I am also delighted that Indian cricketer Sneha Rana joined us this year. Her journey of perseverance and success serves as a powerful inspiration for youth. Yoga remains the most effective tool for developing focus and mental resilience—even on the field of sports.
This year, we have taken yoga beyond boundaries. Initiatives like Run for Yoga and heritage walks to the Beatles Ashram have transformed yoga into a lifestyle movement. When global participants practice yoga amidst these historic spaces, they connect deeply with India’s timeless heritage.
Today, as people from across the world gather here, one truth becomes evident:
Borders may divide land, but they cannot divide consciousness. Yoga is the bridge that connects hearts. Languages may differ, but the rhythm of health is universal. Yoga is the path that can guide the world toward peace.
Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, yoga has evolved into a global mass movement and a powerful symbol of India’s soft power. Today, the world embraces yoga beyond cultural boundaries.
Uttarakhand is not just the origin of the Ganga—it is also the cradle of yoga and spirituality. Its herbs, pure air, and Himalayan serenity position it as a global wellness hub.
I firmly believe that this festival will elevate Uttarakhand to the pinnacle of global spiritual tourism.
As I conclude, I leave you with this thought:
“May all be happy, may all be healthy.
Let the body become a temple and the mind flow like the Ganga.
Carry this divine light of yoga with you,
And illuminate the entire world.”
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all saints, participants, the Tourism Department, and partner institutions for making this grand आयोजन a success.
May your journey of yoga continue endlessly.
Jai Hind! Jai Uttarakhand!
