Rekha Sharma, Chairperson, National Commission for Women, met Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) for a detailed discussion on various topics including women’s empowerment.

The Governor spoke highly of the women of Uttarakhand and said that they are capable of bringing a revolution of change. They are the most powerful members of the family and he has witnessed the work of women’s groups during his visit to the districts. The Governor asked Rekha Sharma to assist in proper marketing, packaging, and branding of the products of women self-help groups. The commission should help in value addition for their economic empowerment.

On her part, Rekha Sharma said that apart from redressal of complaints related to women, the commission organises various training programs and that women and girls are being trained under the Digital Shakti programme. She assured the Governor, that the commission would cooperate in programs related to women empowerment in Uttarakhand.

State Women’s Commission Chairperson Mrs. Kusum Kandwal was also present for this discussion.
