Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) on Saturday visited several disaster-affected sites in Dehradun district to review the damage caused by heavy rainfall on 15–16 September and to assess ongoing relief and reconstruction efforts.
The Governor first met with senior officials at the District Collectorate, where District Magistrate Savin Bansal briefed him on the immediate rescue and relief operations launched as soon as the disaster struck. The Governor praised the administration for its rapid response and for reaching remote areas quickly to reassure affected residents. He directed that officers and staff who demonstrated exceptional service during the crisis be formally recognised.
Visiting Nanda ki Chowki, the Governor inspected the damaged bridge and the construction of an alternative route. Officials informed him that the temporary route would be operational within three to four days, while full bridge reconstruction would take longer. The Governor instructed that traffic movement be restored at the earliest to minimise public inconvenience.
Later, the Governor inspected the flood-hit Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, meeting priests and local residents to understand the extent of the damage. He expressed confidence that with the combined efforts of the state government and district administration, normalcy would be restored soon. At the temple, he also performed a jalabhishek, praying for the peace, prosperity, and well-being of the people of Uttarakhand.
During the visit, the Governor emphasised the importance of learning from each disaster to strengthen future preparedness and resilience.
District Magistrate Savin Bansal, Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, Additional District Magistrates Jaybharat Singh and K.K. Mishra, and SP City Pramod Kumar were among the officials present.
