17-11-2025 : Governor participated in the event “Hind Ki Chadar: A Supreme Saga of Sacrifice”, organised at Raj Bhawan.
Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) participated on Monday in the event “Hind Ki Chadar: A Supreme Saga of Sacrifice”, organised at Raj Bhawan as part of the ongoing observances marking the 350th Martyrdom Year of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. On this occasion, children from the Gurmat Sangeet Bal Vidyalaya, Rishikesh, presented a soulful musical and shabad-based depiction of the life and supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. A book titled “Guru Tegh Bahadur”, based on his life and martyrdom, was also released.
The Governor described the unparalleled sacrifice made by Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji for the protection of the nation, humanity, and religious freedom as unique in the history of the world. He said that the martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji stands as the highest example of safeguarding India’s spiritual legacy, cultural identity, and human values. He said that the message of standing firmly against tyranny and injustice remains equally relevant even today.
The Governor noted that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s decision to observe 26 December as Veer Bal Diwas is a symbol of the nation’s deep gratitude towards the Sikh tradition and the supreme sacrifice of the Sahibzadas. He urged everyone to imbibe the great teachings of Guru Sahib in their lives and remain ever committed to the unity, integrity, and cultural heritage of India. He said that Guru Sahib’s martyrdom is the eternal light of India’s soul, illuminating the path of humanity for centuries to come.
Tourism Minister Shri Satpal Maharaj, addressing the gathering on the occasion of the 350th Martyrdom Year of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, described Guru Sahib as “Hind Ki Chadar” and a symbol of humanity, courage, and sacrifice. He said that Guru Sahib’s ideals and discipline serve as guiding principles for all humankind. He also informed that the Uttarakhand Tourism Department has developed a Gurdwara Circuit, including prominent Sikh pilgrimage sites such as Hemkund Sahib, Nanakmatta, Nankana Sahib, and Reetha-Meetha Sahib.
He further informed that, in the memory of the 350th Martyrdom Year, the Uttarakhand Government is organising a series of programmes on 19 November in Haldwani, 20 November in Rudrapur, and 21 November in Kashipur, with a grand concluding ceremony scheduled on 24 November at Haridwar Sanskrit University.
