His Excellency the Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), chaired a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Golf Club, Nainital at Lok Bhavan, Dehradun. During the meeting, the Governor accorded approval to rename the Raj Bhavan Golf Club as Lok Bhavan Golf Club, in accordance with the Society Registration norms. He directed that the formal procedures related to the name change be completed at the earliest.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various aspects related to the maintenance of the golf course, upgradation of facilities, and initiatives to further enhance its overall quality. The Governor emphasized sustained upkeep of the golf course, continuous quality improvement, and development in line with modern requirements.
The Governor also reviewed the preparations for the proposed Governors’ Cup Golf Tournament–2026, scheduled to be held in the last week of May. He stated that lessons learned from previous editions should be incorporated to make the tournament more organized, attractive, and of a higher standard. He further directed that coordination be established with other reputed golf clubs across the country and best practices be adopted for the successful conduct of the tournament.
Emphasizing that golf should not remain limited to a select section of society, the Governor stressed the need to connect the sport with the general public and ensure wider participation. He directed that students of government schools be provided golf training and encouraged to take up the sport. He also emphasized making necessary arrangements to include children and youth from economically weaker sections.
Highlighting the importance of increased participation of youth, especially girls, in golf, the Governor stated that sports serve not only as a medium for physical and mental development but also foster discipline, leadership, and self-confidence. He directed that Lok Bhavan Golf Club be developed as a model centre of inclusive sports culture, enabling benefits to reach all sections of society.
On this occasion, Secretary to the Governor and Vice President, Raj Bhavan Golf Club, Nainital, Shri Ravinath Raman; Special Assistant to the Governor and Secretary, Raj Bhavan Golf Club, Shri Amit Srivastava; Golf Captain Colonel Vivek Bhatt; Financial Controller to the Governor, Dr. Tripti Srivastava; Member Dr. Sachin Chamoli; and Comptroller Shri Pramod Chamoli were present.
