15-09-2021 : The newly appointed Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General (Retired) Shri Gurmit Singh took oath as the Governor of Uttarakhand at Raj Bhawan on Wednesday.

The newly appointed Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General (Retired) Shri Gurmit Singh took oath as the Governor of Uttarakhand at Raj Bhawan on Wednesday. Chief Justice of Uttarakhand Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan administered the oath of office to Lt Gen (Retd.) Shri Gurmit Singh at a function held at Raj Bhawan. After taking oath, Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Shri Gurmit Singh inspected the guard of honor given by the 4th Maratha Battalion Regiment of the Indian Army. The event was being conducted by Chief Secretary Shri S S Sandhu. Earlier, Chief Secretary Shri S S Sandhu read out the warrant issued by the President of India, according to which Lt Gen (Retd) Shri Gurmit Singh has been appointed as the Governor of Uttarakhand.
After taking oath, during the informal interaction with media, Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Shri Gurmit Singh talked about his priorities. He said that “women of the state are self-dependent and courageous, a new chapter of women empowerment can be written in the state by motivating the daughters of the State to join the Sainik Schools, NDA.
He said that a large number of ex-servicemen, elderly parents and families of soldiers are also in Uttarakhand. Resolving the problems related to their health, settlement of pension, Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) etc. are my priority.
The Governor said that Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath are the Char Dhams in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, this is the place of Ganga and Yamuna, besides many famous pilgrimage sites like Nanakmatta Sahib, Reetha Sahib, Hemkund Sahib are here. This land is a sacred land. It is a privilege to serve this sacred land. He expressed gratitude of the President and the Hon’ble Prime Minister for giving him the opportunity to become the Governor of Uttarakhand.
He said that the state of Uttarakhand is a treasure of nature. Its beauty is supernatural. In Uttarakhand, immense opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship can be created in the mountains by promoting tourism; tourism based businesses, organic farming, Yoga-Ayurveda, small industries based on food processing. The current government is making good efforts in this direction; the state government will always have all possible support in this regard.
Governor Shri Gurmit Singh said that times are changing rapidly. This is the age of technology. The state is bordered by two international borders. Therefore connectivity, bridges, roads, tunnel connectivity is also important. With the time, a new chapter of development and progress should be written.
He paid tribute to the brave sons of Uttarakhand, first Param Vir Chakra winner Major Somnath Sharma and Param Vir Chakra winner Lt Col Dhan Singh Thapa ji. He saluted the brave warriors of Uttarakhand who received 23 Mahaveer Chakras, 147 Veer Chakras, 6 Ashok Chakras, 19 Kirti Chakras for national security.
The Chief Minister of the state, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami along with other dignitaries and senior officials were present on the occasion.
