Traditional Festival “Phool Dei” Celebrated at Lok Bhavan

The Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd), celebrated the traditional folk festival Phool Dei of Uttarakhand with enthusiasm and customary rituals at Lok Bhavan on Sunday.
During the programme organised at Lok Bhavan, children dressed in traditional attire offered flowers and rice at the threshold of Lok Bhavan and prayed for the prosperity and well-being of the state. The children also sang traditional folk songs such as “Phool Dei–Chamma Dei” highlighting the cultural significance of the festival.
On the occasion, the Governor warmly welcomed the children, blessed them, and presented them with gifts. He said that Phool Dei is not merely a festival but a symbol of the rich folk traditions of the region that convey messages of love, harmony, and goodwill. Through this festival, children visit homes offering flowers and wishing prosperity and happiness for everyone, thereby spreading joy in society.
Appreciating the children for celebrating the festival in traditional attire, the Governor said that the younger generation teaches us how to remain connected to our culture, traditions, and roots. When children proudly embrace their cultural identity, it sends a strong message about preserving our heritage.
The Governor said that the smiles and enthusiasm of children remind us that true happiness lies in sharing joy with others. He added that children represent the divine spirit and serve as messengers of positivity and love in society.
He also appreciated the efforts of the Parvatiya Sanskriti Sanrakshan Samiti for playing an important role in preserving and promoting the rich cultural traditions and values of Uttarakhand. The Governor said that the traditions and heritage of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand inspire us to love nature, promote harmony, and spread happiness in society.
On the occasion, the First Lady Smt. Gurmit Kaur, Secretary of Parvatiya Sanskriti Sanrakshan Samiti Shri Chandrashekhar Joshi and Shri Rakesh Panwar, Smt. Monika Rawat, Priyanka Pradhan, Poonam Panwar, and other members of the organisation were present.
