Governor Smt Baby Rani Maurya inaugurated Vasantotsav -2021 in the premises of Raj Bhavan on Saturday. Cabinet Ministers Shri Satpal Maharaj and Shri Subodh Uniyal were also present on the occasion.
Governor Mrs. Maurya cut cake made by colorful balloons excluding air and edible flowers (Edible Flowers) launched the spring festival. The Governor also released the postal cover issued by the Department of Posts and Telegrams on Apis serinae, the selected bee species for this year. It is noteworthy that bees have special importance in agriculture and horticulture. These play an important role in pollination of fruit plants, vegetables, spices, oilseeds, pulses and flowers of wild plants.
Governor Smt. Maurya visited various stalls put up in the exhibition. He distributed jute bags and caps to 135 children with disabilities and disabled children participating in the painting competition. Talking to the media, Governor Smt. Maurya said that common people are being encouraged to plant trees of different types of plants through Vasantotsav. The festival also gives a message to people to connect with nature. The public should be encouraged to conserve the environment. Farmers will also be encouraged through Vasantotsav.
Today’s event was attended by a total of 1316 participants in 46 subcategories of 11 categories and a total of 171 stalls were set up by state and private institutions / individuals in the premises of Raj Bhavan. In which various programs producing Horticulture Equipment, Biofertilizer, Organic Insecticide Controller and NGOs / Self Help Groups / Local Producer Organizations associated with Horticulture Activities demonstrated their programs / products.
This year as additional foods to inform the first time the public decorations using flowers can also be used, edible flowers (Edible Flowers) ie rose, Gudhl, Rododendron, Kailendula, strawberry blossoms, etc. Competition is included. In Dehradun district, as a result of the selection of bakery products under “One district one product”, suitable edible flowers for bakery products were also included for the first time in the competition.
Various activities were conducted in the exhibition following all the standards of Kovid-19 and a proclamation was made from time to time to make the public aware in this regard. On this occasion, masks and sanitizers were arranged by the Red Cross Society. Besides, 10 wheel chairs have been arranged in Raj Bhavan premises for differently-abled children and thermal scanning machines, masks and sanitizers have been provided at the main entrance of Raj Bhavan.

A total of 1316 contestants have taken part in various competitions. First, second and third prizes will be awarded in these competitions. The awards will be presented to the awardees on March 14, 2021 after the decision of the jury.
A buyer-seller meeting was organized by Uttarakhand Horticulture Board to establish direct coordination between flower growers and flower buyers. In today’s program, farmers from all the districts of the state participated and the departmental officers / employees from all the districts as well as the general public participated extensively.
