The Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) met the Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Narayan Rane, in New Delhi on Tuesday. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) held a detailed discussion with the Union MSME Minister Shri Rane on promoting reverse migration through MSME promotion in Uttarakhand.
Governor urged the Union Minister to increase the export of MSME products from the state of Uttarakhand. During the meeting, issues related increasing the demand of local products of Uttarakhand in the national and international markets were discussed.
Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) also gave suggestions to the Union Minister regarding new technology, packaging, technology modernization, adequate funding, storage and setting up of labs for promoting MSMEs in Uttarakhand.
Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that women self help groups are doing good work in Uttarakhand. Self-help groups are bringing revolutionary changes in the field of economic empowerment in the state through small enterprises based on local products and crafts. The Governor said that these women self-help groups in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand should be further empowered by connecting them with MSMEs. Adequate funding should be made available to them. This will encourage reverse migration in the state.
Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that Uttarakhand has immense potential in the field of organic farming. Under MSME, special emphasis should be given to increase the demand and marketing of organic products of Uttarakhand at the global level. Governor said that MSMEs can play an important role in reverse migration in Uttarakhand. Union Minister Shri Narayan Rane assured all possible assistance and cooperation in this regard.
