    14-12-2021:Governor met the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, in New Delhi

    The Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) met the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, in New Delhi on Tuesday. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) shared his vision regarding road connectivity in Uttarakhand with the Union Minister. The Governor mainly discussed the Char Dham Marg All Weather Road Development Project, various ropeway projects under construction, development of roads in border areas in the state.

    There was also a discussion between the Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari and the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) regarding the under construction Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Expressway and new road technology. Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari assured timely and effective implementation of all the road projects being run in Uttarakhand. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that a revolution is taking place in the field of road connectivity in India. Road connectivity has an important role in the development and progress of Uttarakhand. Ropeways are being developed in the state where cannot be reached by roads. The Governor said that Uttarakhand is also a center of religious faiths. The state is going to become the spiritual capital of the world. In view of the facilities of the pilgrims coming from all over the world, the projects of roadways and ropeways development are very important. He said that it is a matter of happiness that ropeway is being developed to reach Hemkund Sahib Ji. Now Sikh devotees from all over the world will be able to visit Hemkund Sahib ji even more conveniently. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that Uttarakhand being a border state, road connectivity is also important from strategic and security point of view. Expansion of roadways in border areas is very important. The Governor said that we have to encourage people of border areas for reverse migration especially. From a strategic point of view also, it is very important for the residents to live in the border areas. He said that Uttarakhand is also a tourism state. Tourism is the backbone of the state’s economy. Development and strengthening of roadways and ropeways will boost tourism and reverse migration. It is worth mentioning that the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) met Lieutenant General Rajeev Choudhary, Director General, Border Roads Organization in New Delhi recently and had a detailed discussion on the expansion of road connectivity in the border areas of Uttarakhand. The works of BRO were praised for the development of infrastructure in adverse conditions in the marginal areas of by the Governor.
