Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), has extended his heartiest greetings and best wishes to the people of the nation and the state on the occasion of Independence Day.

In his message on the eve of the occasion, the Governor paid tribute to the known and unknown heroes of the freedom struggle, stating that it was through their indomitable courage, sacrifice, and selflessness that the dream of an independent India was realised. He said that the supreme sacrifices made by the great freedom fighters for the nation’s independence and security will never be forgotten.

The Governor said that India has resolved to become a developed nation by 2047. The coming 22 years of Amrit Kaal bring both responsibilities and duties towards the next generation. When the country celebrates the centenary of Independence in 2047, the aim should be to see a developed India with a distinct and respected identity on the global stage.

Despite its challenging geographical terrain, Uttarakhand continues to progress steadily on the path of development, the Governor noted. He emphasised the state’s immense potential in the fields of yoga, Ayurveda, honey production, aroma therapy, and wellness, and said that it is a collective responsibility to utilise these natural and cultural treasures to generate sustainable economic opportunities.

Highlighting tourism as a key pillar of the state’s economy, the Governor said that pilgrimages such as Char Dham, Kanwar Yatra, Hemkund Sahib, and Manaskhand Yatra, along with adventure, wellness, and eco-tourism, are witnessing remarkable growth. He pointed out that the winter tourism initiative launched last year has yielded encouraging results, with rising tourist interest indicating that Uttarakhand is emerging as a hub for “all-season tourism.”

The Governor also acknowledged that Uttarakhand’s unique topography makes it prone to natural disasters, but affirmed that the state’s disaster management system remains ever-ready to meet such challenges. Expressing grief over the loss of lives in the recent natural disasters in Dharali and Pauri, he said the relief and rescue operations once again tested the state’s preparedness. He expressed gratitude to all personnel from central and state agencies whose dedication and service stand as an outstanding example of disaster management.

Referring to Uttarakhand as the “Land of the Brave,” the Governor paid homage to the many sons of the soil who have laid down their lives in defence of the nation. He mentioned the construction of the grand Sainya Dham as the “Fifth Dham” to immortalise the memory of the martyrs, and also appreciated the state government’s efforts to strengthen agriculture, organic farming, and horticulture.

Expressing pride in the role of women and daughters in the state’s progress, the Governor said that their hard work, dedication, and courage have always brought new energy and direction to Uttarakhand. He expressed confidence that women, with their talent and skills, will convert the state’s potential into opportunities and take it to new heights.

The Governor further noted that emerging technologies such as AI, space, cyber, quantum, and robotics hold immense potential. He emphasised the need to strengthen the state’s presence in these sectors, increase participation, and place special focus on skill development for youth and women, calling it essential for balanced development.
