Governor Delivers Message of Global Peace, Unity, and Spiritual Consciousness at the International Yoga Festival
Lok Bhavan Dehradun/Rishikesh 14 March, 2026
The Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd), participated in the International Yoga Festival–2026 held at Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh, on Saturday. On the occasion, the Governor also joined the grand Ganga Aarti organised on the banks of the River Ganga.
The annual festival witnessed the participation of more than 1,500 yoga practitioners from over 80 countries, along with ambassadors from several nations, yoga experts, spiritual seekers, and young students.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that the International Yoga Festival, organised on the sacred banks of the Ganga and in the lap of the Himalayas, is not merely an event but a celebration of spiritual consciousness that connects humanity across the world. He said that when thousands of seekers from different countries gather at one place through yoga and spiritual practice, it creates a remarkable confluence of cosmic energy and inspiration.
The Governor said that yoga is not merely a physical exercise but a process of inner transformation and spiritual awakening. The true purpose of yoga, he said, is to bring the body, mind, and soul into harmony and connect the individual with nature and the divine. He added that regular practice of yoga brings positive changes in a person’s thoughts and outlook, fostering creativity, positivity, and dynamism.
He urged participants not to keep the practice of yoga limited to themselves, but to spread its message of peace and positivity across the world.
The Governor further said that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has always welcomed the world with the spirit of “Atithi Devo Bhava.” Every visitor who comes here is treated like a member of the family. He expressed confidence that the participants from different countries would return to their homelands as ambassadors of yoga, peace, and humanity.
The Governor welcomed the ambassadors, yoga practitioners, and teachers from various countries who had come to Parmarth Niketan, and congratulated Swami Chidanand Muni, President of Parmarth Niketan, for organising the grand event.
The programme was attended by the First Lady Smt. Gurmit Kaur, Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati of Parmarth Niketan, and yoga practitioners from various countries.
