13-12-2025:Governor Addresses Youth at the 9th Convocation of DIT University, Emphasizes Nation-Building, Entrepreneurship and a Drug-Free Society
Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) attended the 9th Convocation Ceremony of DIT University, Dehradun, on Saturday as the Chief Guest. Addressing the graduating students, the Governor congratulated them on earning their degrees and stated that a degree is not merely an academic achievement, but the beginning of a new journey of responsibility towards the nation, society, and humanity.
The Governor said that the true purpose of education is not limited to the acquisition of knowledge, but lies in character building, strengthening of thought, and development of sensitivity in conduct. He congratulated the students, their parents, and the faculty of the university, stating that years of discipline, hard work, and guidance are reflected in this moment of success.
On the occasion, the Governor remarked that the present era is driven by technology, innovation, and global competition, where the nature of knowledge and skills is rapidly evolving. Those who understand this change and continuously prepare themselves to learn will lead the future. He appreciated DIT University for its significant contributions in modern disciplines such as engineering, pharmacy, architecture, artificial intelligence, design, healthcare services, forensic science, and environmental sciences.
Addressing the youth, the Governor emphasized that success should not be measured merely by position, salary, or prestige, but by how effectively one uses their knowledge and abilities for the welfare of society and the nation. He specially praised female students, stating that today India’s daughters are leading in every field and will play a decisive role in building a developed India.
Delivering a clear and firm message on substance abuse, the Governor said that addiction destroys the energy, health, and future of the youth. He urged young people to stay away from drugs, move forward with a healthy body and empowered mindset, and become ambassadors of the “Drug-Free Uttarakhand” campaign.
The Governor called upon the youth to adopt the resolve of “Nation First,” stating that placing the country and society above self-interest is the true essence of national duty. Highlighting entrepreneurship as the need of the hour, he encouraged students not only to seek employment but also to become job creators, thereby contributing to Uttarakhand’s role in a developed India.
Speaking on Artificial Intelligence, the Governor said that AI is providing new direction to every sector including education, healthcare, transport, administration, and industry. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is focusing on the development of human-centric, ethical, and transparent AI. He informed that under the “India AI Mission,” an investment of over ₹10,000 crore is a significant step towards strengthening the nation’s future digital capabilities.
Concluding his address, the Governor stated that today’s youth are the torchbearers in building a self-reliant India, a developed India, and a globally respected India. He extended his best wishes to all degree recipients for a bright future and encouraged them to remain lifelong learners, responsible citizens, and dedicated servants of humanity.
On this occasion, University Chairman Anuj Agrawal, Principal Advisor N. Ravishankar, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghurama, along with faculty members, parents, and officials, were present.
