Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) has expressed concern over the incident involving the inflow of debris and water into a THDC tunnel at Pipalkoti in Chamoli district.

The Governor spoke with the Secretary, Disaster Management, and sought detailed information about the incident as well as the ongoing relief and rescue operations.

The Governor said that all concerned relief and rescue agencies, including the SDRF, NDRF, police and local administration, are working with full preparedness and carrying out the rescue operation on a war footing.

He said that, following prompt action, several workers have already been safely evacuated, which is a matter of relief. The Governor directed the authorities to make every possible effort to safely evacuate the remaining workers trapped inside the tunnel at the earliest.
