On the occasion of National Youth Day, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) on Wednesday interacted with the youth of Uttarakhand from Raj Bhawan through virtual medium. This interactive program was organized by Doon University. Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) discussed with the youth about their career, aspirations, future plans, youth’s vision with respect to the development of Uttarakhand and the views of the youth regarding nation building. The students asked questions on various issues to the Governor. Governor was greatly influenced by the thoughts of the talented youth of the state.

    Nation First

Hansika Parashar, a student of Chemistry at Doon University, asked the Governor how youth as students can contribute to nation building. In response to this, Governor said that if students start thinking about nation building and the betterment of society from school level , then it is a great achievement in itself. It is the duty of every youth to think about the development and welfare of the nation. Our youth are going in the right direction. The youth should always follow the mantra of the nation first. I myself have walked this path all my life. Swami Vivekananda also considered service to the nation as the biggest religion. Youth has to uphold the passion and spirit of the nation first by eliminating narrow mentalities like religion, caste, language, province. Only young people can do this .

Recognize your self worth and believe in yourself – Governor

The student of psychology Vigani asked the Governor why most of the Indian youth today want to settle abroad and do jobs there. Governor said that we have to create such an environment in our country and states that most of the youth stay in the country and their state. Jobs and facilities like abroad will have to be developed here. Reverse migration in Uttarakhand should be our topmost priority. It is ironic that today, when the talented youth of India earn a name abroad, then we realize how talented our youth are. Whereas today the attitude of the whole world towards Indians has changed. The world recognizes that India and Indians especially the youth have unlimited and unrestricted potential .

Gharat, Home Stay, Solar Energy, Horticulture, Tourism Reverse Migration are tools for reverse migration

Student Vipasa asked the Governor how migration could be stopped from the marginal districts like Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh and Chamoli of the state. In response to the question, the Governor said that road connectivity, tourism development, home stay, gharat, solar energy, horticulture etc. would prove to be game changers in the strategically important border districts of the state. But local participation, especially the participation of youth, will be of utmost importance in reverse migration efforts. Corona has taught us to live in homes and villages.

    Indianness is our DNA

Student of the School of Design, Sankalp asked how to address the lack of basic facilities in the state for the youth to progress. Governor said that despite the lack of physical facilities and harsh geographical conditions, the people of Uttarakhand have dominated every field in the country and the world with their hard work, dedication and talent. The human resource, thinking and capability here are of a high level. India is a young country. Youth is the strength, present and future of this great nation. Youth will have the biggest role in the mission of making India a world guru. We have to keep in mind that we have to become the most developed, progressive and prosperous nation of the world, but we do not have to lose our Indianness in this race. To preserve the ancient culture, traditions, thinking and thoughts of India and bring it in front of the whole world is our duty. Our Indianness is our DNA. We Indians have inherited qualities like humanity, kindness, worship of nature, spirituality. Being Indian is what makes us different and the best in the whole world. Indians have to contribute to the progress of the country by following the path of harmony.

    Swami Vivekananda guide of youth

Governor while paying tribute to Swami Vivekananda said that he is hero of the youth even today. The principle of service and charity of the needy of Swami Vivekananda attracts me very much. Because even in the Sikh tradition, service, kindness, humanity and charity have been given the highest place. Swami Vivekananda wanted to help the needy people of India. He considered human service to be the true religion. Today’s youth should also give priority to service and humanity in everything they do.

Vice Chancellors, office bearers and students of various state universities, including Vice Chancellor of Doon University Dr. Surekha Dangwal, participated in this program.
