    Governor Participates in Soldiers’ Conference at Auli

    Hon’ble Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) participated in a Soldiers’ Conference held at Auli, Chamoli, today and honoured personnel for their outstanding service and achievements.

    During the conference, the Governor addressed the personnel of the 7th Battalion of the Assam Regiment, popularly known as the “Auli Battalion,” as well as personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Mountaineering and Skiing Institute (M&SI). He said that personnel of the Indian Army and ITBP continue to safeguard the nation’s security and sovereignty with unwavering dedication even under the most challenging conditions, making the entire country proud.

    The Governor recalled the glorious history of the 7th Battalion Assam Regiment and paid tribute to the bravery displayed by soldiers in various operations, including Operation Pawan. He also paid homage to brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.

    He stated that personnel currently deployed in the Mana Sub Sector under “Operation Snow Leopard” are displaying exceptional courage and commitment while performing their duties in the harsh Himalayan terrain. He remarked that the armed forces and security agencies are not only protectors of the nation’s borders but also exemplary symbols of humanitarian service.

    The Governor also appreciated the achievements of the ITBP Mountaineering and Skiing Institute, Auli. He said that the institute, established in 1976, has been producing highly trained professionals in mountaineering, skiing, rafting, and mountain warfare. He noted that successful expeditions by ITBP personnel to Mount Everest and several other challenging peaks reflect India’s courage and capability.

    The Governor further stated that the institute is emerging as a center of inspiration and opportunity for the youth of Uttarakhand. He appreciated efforts to connect local youth with employment opportunities through rafting and mountain training programmes under skill development initiatives. He expressed confidence that the institute would continue to create greater opportunities and inspiration for future generations.

    Among those present on the occasion were Brigadier Gaurav Batra, Commander, 9 Independent Mountain Brigade Group; Colonel Shivesh Tiwari, Commanding Officer, 7th Assam Regiment; and Ratan Singh Sonal, Commandant, ITBP (CO Training, M&SI).
