Governor Inaugurates Ex-Servicemen Environmental Park, Visits Women Empowerment Centres; Holds Review Meetings with Military and Administrative Officials

Hon’ble Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) arrived in Lansdowne on Saturday as part of his two-day district visit programme. During the visit, he participated in various events organized at the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre and reviewed matters related to military activities, women empowerment, self-employment initiatives, environmental conservation, and administrative arrangements in Pauri district.
Upon his arrival at Shaheed Bhawani Datt Joshi Parade Ground in Lansdowne, the Governor was welcomed by District Magistrate Swati S. Bhadauria, Chief Development Officer Girish Gunwant, and Brigadier Vinod Negi, Commandant of the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre. A ceremonial Guard of Honour was also presented to the Governor by security personnel.
The Governor inaugurated the “Ex-Servicemen Environmental Park,” dedicated to ex-servicemen and environmental conservation. Officials of the Cantonment Board briefed him about the concept, structure, and environmental significance of the park. The Governor appreciated the green initiatives developed within the park and the efforts made to honour ex-servicemen. He stated that such initiatives not only promote environmental awareness but also serve as a tribute to those who have served the nation.
During the visit to the park, the Governor interacted warmly with students of Army Public School and local residents. The children welcomed him enthusiastically, and the Governor encouraged them to adopt the values of discipline, education, and national service in their lives.
Subsequently, the Governor visited the “All Women Cafe,” where he observed traditional and local products prepared by women entrepreneurs. Appreciating the quality and presentation of the products, he remarked that promoting local products is an important step towards strengthening the rural economy. He praised the efforts of women and stated that self-employment-based activities play a significant role in women’s economic empowerment.
The Governor also visited the “Bhulli Empowerment Centre” and inspected various training and production units operating there. He interacted with women and staff members working at the centre and reviewed sections including metal art, Veer Nari Computer Training Centre, block printing, Nanhi Kali Centre, handmade paper unit, woollen cap section, shawl section, store room, Monal Beauty Parlour, and spice unit.
Appreciating the quality, creativity, and utility of the handicrafts and local products prepared by women, the Governor described the centre as an excellent example of women empowerment and self-reliance. He stated that the vocational and skill-based training being imparted at the centre is playing a vital role in connecting families associated with the regimental centre as well as women and youth from nearby rural areas with self-employment opportunities.
The Governor also inspected various machines and training equipment installed at the centre and interacted with women regarding their work experience and operational activities. He emphasized that such training centres are extremely important for strengthening the vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat.” He further stressed the need for better marketing of local products and stronger coordination with self-help groups. He directed the District Magistrate to link the centre more effectively with self-help groups and government schemes to further expand its activities.
During the visit, the Governor appeared deeply moved while interacting affectionately with young children. He spoke with them about their studies, sports activities, and future aspirations and encouraged them to progress confidently in life.
As part of the programme, the District Magistrate made a detailed presentation at Command Hall regarding law and order, development works, tourism, infrastructure, and administrative arrangements in the district. The Governor reviewed the progress of various schemes and emphasized effective implementation of public welfare programmes.
During a station briefing held at Roy Hut, the Governor was also briefed on military activities, operational arrangements, and security-related matters in the region.
Among those present on the occasion were Lieutenant Colonel Vijay Tomar, Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Thakur, PD DRDA Vivek Kumar Upadhyay, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shalini Maurya, CO Niharika Semwal, and other officers from the Army, administration, and police departments.
