A delegation of various Gurdwara committees based in Dehradun paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), at Lok Bhavan on Tuesday. During the meeting, discussions were held on various issues, including matters concerning the Sikh community and its social and community welfare initiatives.

Welcoming the delegation, the Governor said that the teachings of the Sikh Gurus convey the profound message of humanity, service, equality and brotherhood. He appreciated the inspiring work being undertaken by Gurdwaras in serving underprivileged and needy sections of society through Langar, education, healthcare and various other social welfare activities.

The Governor said that the spirit of seva (selfless service) and social harmony has always been a defining feature of the Sikh tradition. He noted that the Sikh community has made a significant contribution towards strengthening the values of selfless service and human welfare in society. He further emphasized that religious and social institutions have an important role to play in promoting social harmony, mutual respect and communal amity.

He called upon the representatives to continue encouraging the younger generation to connect with the teachings of the Sikh Gurus, Indian culture, national service and social responsibility. He said that while it is important to connect young people with their rich heritage and values, they must also be provided opportunities to engage with modern knowledge, technology and innovation.

On the occasion, the delegation briefed the Governor about various social and community welfare initiatives undertaken by their respective Gurdwaras and apprised him of their ongoing activities. The representatives expressed their gratitude to the Governor and conveyed their desire for continued cooperation in promoting social service and public welfare.
