    08-04-2021 : Governor presided over the meeting of the State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Committee

    The Governor Smt. Baby Rani Maurya chaired the meeting of the State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Committee at the Raj Bhavan Auditorium on Thursday. Governor Mrs. Maurya advised to improve the functioning of Red Cross in the state more. He also expressed displeasure at not joining new members in Red Cross as expected in previous years. He instructed to speed up the Red Cross membership campaign. The Governor said that the main strength of Red Cross is its volunteers, so more and more people should be connected to Red Cross.

    Governor Smt. Maurya instructed the state branch and district committees to work more dedicatedly. Expressing displeasure at not having regular meetings of Red Cross in the districts, he instructed all Chief Medical Officers to meet every month and all the District Magistrates every three months. The minutes of the meetings should be sent directly to the Raj Bhavan. Governor Mrs. Maurya said that the role of the members of Red Cross in the second wave of Kovid-19 is important. Along with increasing awareness of prevention of Kovid-19 in people, it is also necessary to provide assistance to infected persons for seeking medical help.
    Governor Smt. Maurya said that keeping in view the disaster management, the work of setting up Youth Red Cross should be given momentum. During summer, awareness campaign for water conservation should be conducted by Red Cross. People should also be made aware to conserve rainwater. The Red Cross representative of Bageshwar said that generic medicines are not prescribed by government doctors in the district, on which instructions were given to demand a report from DM.

    In the meeting, the Governor has instructed to give show cause notice to some districts absent the Red Cross Management Committee presidents without any notice. The Governor also expressed displeasure over not sending the prescribed thirty percent of the membership fee to the state branch by many districts.

    The minutes of the last General Assembly meeting were kept in the meeting for approval. The fiscal year 19-20 was kept in the Real Income Expenditure Assembly. Residue of April 1, 2019, 1.21 crores, income of 19-20 38.98 lakhs, expenditure in 19-20 was Rs 33.27 lakhs.

    An explanation of the proposed income target has been sought in the budget of St. John Ambulles, the sister branch of Red Cross. Many Red Cross Committees thanked Governor Smt. Maurya for the relief material sent from discretionary fund and other sources in disaster affected and remote parts of Mori, Joshimath etc.

    The meeting was attended by Secretary Health Dr. Pankaj Pandey, Secretary to Governor Mr. Brijesh Sant, DM Dehradun Dr. Ashish Srivastava, Additional Secretary to Governor Mr. Jitendra Sonkar, Red Cross State Branch Chairman Mr. Kundan Singh Tolia, General Secretary Dr. MS Ansari, various officials. Chief Medical Officers and Red Cross officials from the districts were present.
