    The Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), participated in the 26th Lohri Festival organised by the Punjabi community in Haridwar. Extending his greetings on the occasion of Lohri, the Governor said that the festival is deeply associated with cultural consciousness, auspicious blessings, and people-centric values. He stated that Lohri is an agricultural festival linked with crop production, symbolising the arrival of the New Year, prosperity, and the infusion of positive energy into humanity.

    The Governor said that festivals like Lohri reflect the unity inherent in India’s cultural diversity and convey strong messages of brotherhood, harmony, and fraternity within society.

    Lohri Strengthens National Unity, Human Service, and the Spirit of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’

    Referring to the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Governor said that India’s cultural diversity is its greatest strength, and Lohri holds a special place within this rich heritage. He noted that the folk art, music, and traditions of the Punjabi community are globally unique and vibrant. He also appreciated the commendable role played by the Punjabi community in humanitarian service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Highlighting the teachings of the Guru tradition, the Governor said that it emphasises the common origin of all humanity from a single divine source, making it essential for society to uphold values of tolerance, love, and mutual harmony. He urged the gathering to work with a “Nation First” spirit for the welfare of the country and society, and to move forward with dedication to realise the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.

    On the occasion, Member of Parliament from Haridwar constituency Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat; MLA Shri Madan Kaushik; Mayors Smt. Kiran Jaiswal and Smt. Anita Agarwal; senior district administration and police officials; office-bearers of the Punjabi Mahasabha; and a large number of distinguished citizens were present.
