Officers of Indian Revenue Service called on Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at Raj Bhawan on Thursday.
Governor held detailed discussion with IRS officers regarding various aspects and challenges related to revenue in Uttarakhand.
Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that Civic sense should be developed in the public towards tax payment. The Governor said that every citizen should be financially literate. Financial literacy among citizens is very important for the development of the country. The economy should be operated with the spirit of the nationalism. There should be an understanding of the economy among the general public. Indigenous, local and rural products and crafts should be promoted. Awareness should be brought about micro financing in hilly areas in Uttarakhand. The Governor said that the understanding of Mass Economy, Patriotic Economy and Political Economy should be developed among the people.
Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) told the officers that he was impressed the most by the confidence and vitality of the hilly women here in Uttarakhand. The credibility and competence of the women of Uttarakhand is of a high order. More and more loans should be made available to them for self-employment. They can be trusted completely. Their loan repayment capacity is more than 200%. The Governor said that women, girls and youth in the state should be made literate in microfinancing. He said that leadership quality has to be developed among the local women. The economic empowerment of women is their real empowerment. Revolution in Uttarakhand is possible only by women.
Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) told the IRS officers that a seminar on “Empowerment of Women in the State through Micro Financing” would be organized at Raj Bhawan very soon. In this seminar, women belonging to self-help groups, self-employed women, various credit institutions, banks, master trainers and related departments will participate. Governor expected the cooperation of IRS officers in making this seminar a success. The Governor said that micro financing schemes, self-help groups and direct to banks are a boon for the upliftment and reverse migration in the hilly areas of the state.
Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) called upon the IRS officers to cooperate in the development and progress of the state with new energy and determination on the New Year.
