In Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun, President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday inaugurated two new visitor-centric facilities at Rashtrapati Niketan — a Foot Over Bridge and an Equestrian Zone. These projects have transformed the Rashtrapati Niketan campus into a unique confluence of modern infrastructure, enhanced security, and Himalayan heritage.
The 105-foot-long pedestrian bridge constructed on Rajpur Road is not only a reflection of local architectural aesthetics but also ensures seamless movement between Rashtrapati Niketan and the upcoming Rashtrapati Udyan. Built by the State Public Works Department at a cost of ₹9 crore within just six months, the project is being hailed as a “modern marvel of Himalayan design.” With ramps and railings, the bridge has been designed to provide easy and safe access for visitors of all age groups.
Subsequently, the President inaugurated the newly developed, state-of-the-art Equestrian Zone within the Rashtrapati Niketan premises. On the occasion, she personally fed grass to the horses of the President’s Bodyguard (PBG) and inquired about their upkeep. Spread over 0.7 acres and developed by the CPWD, this facility houses eight selected horses of the PBG. Dedicated viewing corridors and guided tours have been arranged for visitors. The facility will remain open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on Mondays.
Later in the evening, President Murmu attended a cultural evening organized by the Department of Culture, Government of Uttarakhand, at Rashtrapati Niketan. Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.) was also present on the occasion. The President enjoyed the soulful performances of Uttarakhand’s folk music and dance, interacting with the artists and appreciating their contributions.
The inauguration at Rashtrapati Niketan marked a moment of pride for Uttarakhand — a day when modernity embraced tradition, and Rashtrapati Niketan took a significant step forward toward a visionary future.
