Governor Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on Their Birth Anniversaries

Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) paid his respectful tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri on the occasion of their birth anniversaries at a programme organised at Lok Bhavan on Friday. The Governor offered floral tributes before the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. A prayer meeting was also organised by Lok Bhavan on the occasion. Artists from Bhatkhande Music College, Dehradun, presented soulful renditions of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajans and the Ram Dhun.
The Governor said that the life of Mahatma Gandhi conveys the timeless message of truth, non-violence, cleanliness, self-reliance and dedication to humanity. He said that Gandhi’s thoughts are not confined to any particular era but continue to serve as a guiding light for society and the nation even today. He called upon the youth to draw inspiration from Gandhi’s life and imbibe the values of truth, discipline and service in their daily lives.
Paying tribute to former Prime Minister Late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the Governor said that through his simple life, firm resolve and unwavering commitment to duty, Shastri Ji established high ideals in public life. His life inspires us to place national interest above all else and discharge our responsibilities with honesty, dedication and a strong sense of duty.
The Governor said that imbibing the thoughts and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri would be the true tribute to these great national leaders. By incorporating their values into our lives, we should contribute towards building a strong, self-reliant and developed India.
First Lady Smt. Gurmeet Kaur, Secretary to the Governor Shri Ravinath Raman, Legal Advisor Shri Kaushal Kishore Shukla, Additional Secretary Smt. Reena Joshi, Financial Controller Dr. Tripti Srivastava, along with officers and personnel of Lok Bhavan, were present on the occasion.
