Higher Command Course Officers Call on Governor
Lok Bhavan Dehradun 02 October, 2026
A delegation of officers participating in the Higher Command Course called on Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) at Lok Bhavan on Friday. The officers are currently undertaking a Forward Area Tour in Uttarakhand. During the interaction, the Governor engaged with the officers on various aspects of military operations and national security.
The Higher Command Course is an advanced military training programme for senior officers of the Armed Forces. It aims to provide comprehensive exposure to higher command, operational planning, strategic thinking, leadership, joint military operations and various dimensions of national security.
Addressing the officers, the Governor said that the nature of warfare is changing rapidly in the present era. Technologies such as drones, Artificial Intelligence, advanced sensors, electronic warfare, satellite surveillance and real-time data are transforming the conduct of military operations. He emphasised that the effective utilisation of technology requires seamless coordination, capable leadership, secure communication systems and alignment with operational requirements.
The Governor highlighted the growing importance of coordination and integration in the contemporary security environment. He said that effective coordination among different domains and institutions is essential to addressing the challenges related to national security. He encouraged the officers to develop expertise in their respective fields, continuously learn and keep their knowledge and skills updated.
The Governor said that the visit to Uttarakhand is not merely an opportunity to study military areas and terrain, but also an important means of understanding the ground realities, challenges and strategic possibilities of the Himalayan region from the perspective of national security. He noted that Uttarakhand’s Himalayan borders, proximity to the northern frontier, difficult terrain and challenging weather conditions give the state particular strategic significance in the country’s security architecture.
He urged the officers to make the Forward Area Tour more than an exercise in observation and inspection, and to analyse the prevailing conditions and understand them from a broader strategic perspective.
Brigadier R. S. Rana and senior military officers of the Armed Forces were also present on the occasion.
