The annual Vasantotsav, organised every year at Lok Bhavan, Dehradun, will be held from 27 February to 01 March, 2026. In this regard, an important meeting was held on Monday at Lok Bhavan under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.).

During the meeting, the Governor directed that Vasantotsav be organised with complete enthusiasm, energy and festive spirit, ensuring maximum public participation so that people at large can directly connect with the event. He instructed officials to ensure wide publicity of Vasantotsav and emphasised that efforts should be made to extend its reach beyond the state. For this purpose, officials and representatives from other states should also be invited.

The Governor directed that food courts based on the theme of traditional millets be set up during Vasantotsav with the cooperation of IHM, GMVN and women self-help groups of the state. He said that special emphasis would be laid on promoting honey production through the festival.

The Governor also announced that from this year onwards, ‘Governor’s Special Awards’ will be conferred on progressive farmers, women and youth startups on the occasion of Vasantotsav. Individuals and institutions doing exemplary work in the field of floriculture under these three categories will be honoured. He instructed concerned officials to complete all arrangements related to the event in a timely manner.

The Governor stated that Vasantotsav plays an important role in promoting floriculture in Uttarakhand. Emphasising the need to link flower exhibitions with commercial activities, he said that flowers produced in the state should be marketed not only within Uttarakhand but across the country. He further highlighted that Uttarakhand has a special advantage in products such as honey, aroma products and millets, and directed that special focus be given to these sectors during this year’s Vasantotsav.
Officials informed that competitions will be organised in 15 different categories in the flower exhibition, with 165 prizes to be awarded. Attractive band performances will be presented by ITBP, IMA, PAC, Pipe Band and Home Guards. Popular district-level cultural programmes will also be organised as cultural evenings.

For the first time this year, live demonstrations by NIM Uttarkashi, yoga demonstrations by NIVH and Niramaya Yoga Gram, as well as judo and martial arts performances, will be organised during Vasantotsav. A painting competition will also be held for school children in the 5 to 18 years age group, including children from orphanages, children with disabilities and children of ragpicker communities.

Several competitions have been proposed under various categories of the flower exhibition, including cut flowers, potted plant arrangements, loose flower arrangements, hanging pots, along with on-the-spot photography. As in previous years, competitions related to lilium exhibition, vegetable gardening, bonsai gardening, soilless hydroponic farming, terrarium and honey processing will also be organised. Flower exhibitions and competitions by commercial and private floriculturists, various government gardens, and flower-based rangoli competitions will also be held.
