01-11-2025:Governor released the book “Mountains of Labour; Currents of Change – Women’s Livelihood and Economic Transitions in the Himalayan Region and Uttarakhand”
Hon’ble Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) released the book “Mountains of Labour; Currents of Change – Women’s Livelihood and Economic Transitions in the Himalayan Region and Uttarakhand” at Raj Bhawan on Saturday. The book, focused on women’s livelihoods and economic transitions in the Indian Himalayan Region, has been jointly authored by Prof. Surekha Dangwal, Vice Chancellor of Doon University, Prof. Rajendra P. Mamgain, and Ms. Shruti Doundiyal.
Based on the concept of “One University, One Research,” this study is derived from a comprehensive survey of 900 households across six districts of Uttarakhand. The research integrates quantitative data with valuable insights gathered from interviews, group discussions, and field observations.
On the occasion, the Governor congratulated the authors and the research team of Doon University, stating that this study truly embodies the spirit of “One University, One Research,” aimed at promoting effective and practical research aligned with the local needs of Uttarakhand. He remarked that the book would not only provide a new direction to women’s empowerment but also serve as a valuable resource for policymakers.
The Governor emphasized that women’s economic empowerment forms the true foundation of development, and achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047 requires women to be at the forefront of social and economic transformation.
