Governor Reviews Kanwar Yatra, Disaster Management, and Welfare of Retired Police Personnel

Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) held a courtesy meeting with Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth at Lok Bhavan on Saturday. During the meeting, the DGP briefed the Governor on the state’s law and order situation, the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, the monsoon season, and other current issues.
The Governor emphasized that ensuring the safety of Kanwar pilgrims, uninterrupted traffic movement, and a smooth pilgrimage should remain the highest priority. He appreciated the coordinated efforts of the police and civil administration in ensuring that the pilgrimage is conducted safely, efficiently, and peacefully.
The Governor also reviewed the state’s disaster preparedness in view of the monsoon season. He stressed the need for constant vigilance in vulnerable areas, prompt relief and rescue operations in the event of disasters or emergencies, and effective coordination among all concerned departments.
During the meeting, the Governor also discussed issues related to the welfare of retired police personnel. He sought information on measures concerning their healthcare, rehabilitation, social security, and the effective implementation of welfare schemes. He stated that police personnel who have dedicated themselves to the service of the state and society deserve continued respect and care even after retirement.
DGP Deepam Seth informed the Governor that the Kanwar Yatra, which commenced on July 30, will continue until August 11. Comprehensive security and law-and-order arrangements have been put in place for the duration of the pilgrimage. He said that the entire Kanwar Mela area has been divided into 22 Super Zones, 67 Zones, and 200 Sectors. Compared to last year, 110 additional duty points have been established. More than 11,000 police and security personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of pilgrims, while 420 CCTV cameras are being used for continuous surveillance.
The DGP further informed the Governor that the Uttarakhand Police have implemented extensive security and monitoring measures in view of the monsoon season and disaster management requirements. Continuous surveillance of pilgrimage routes, regular monitoring of weather and road conditions, swift inter-agency coordination, and preparedness for immediate relief and rescue operations in the event of any disaster have all been ensured.
